Search and Discover China Trade Knowledge from Trusted Sources™

Current Language: English
Quick Summary

Imagine a vast body of information that helps your business be informed of changes to laws and regulations to the latest trends in exports to agricultural development or even clean energy. Now imagine if the sources of that information were directly from reputable and trusted sources like the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, top businessmen in their fields, or even the World Bank. Now imagine if only a fraction of that was available in your language. The reality is that the world is full of information but most of this information is inaccessible due to the fact that it may not be in your language. At SourceJuice.com we created a platform to enable transparency and accessibility to knowledge by using technology to break down the barriers of language as well as bridge the gaps in finding such knowledge with a vertical search engine. By covering more than 200 sources (with more each month) of information and using advanced translation technology to provide this body of knowledge in 12 languages (more coming), we aim to be a central place for those people and institutions doing business with China. Information is power and the catalyst for bringing ideas to life. SourceJuice.com is a platform to enrich your information needs as well as provide knowledge capital to your business and pursuits. Welcome and thank you for sharing our site with others.

What does SourceJuice represent? What does it mean?

The name represents the culmination of two words "Source" and "Juice". The word "Source" as described in a standard dictionary represents the place where something begins or the original location of something. In our case the word "Source" represents the place where one finds information dealing with import, export and global trade but with a strong focus on China. The word "Juice" that we are using in our name is one form of the American slang that represents having information that is difficult to get or not easy to acquire. Putting both words together we have SourceJuice which then represents where you are at today which is a place where someone involved in sourcing, imports, and exports in and out of China can get access to information, intelligence, and news that is not easy to acquire for your personal or business needs.

Background

Welcome to SourceJuice.com and thank you for taking the time to discover more about why we built this platform for the world. SourceJuice.com began in 2007 as a blog and was one of the first websites to primarily discuss opportunities and issues around sourcing and importing from China. We discovered that for how big the Internet was, there were very few people providing information around actual sourcing and importing experiences as well as the issues and challenges that came from doing international trade. Once we launched our blog in 2007, our readership grew very rapidly and we were asked by many of our readers if we could expand on certain topics as well as even help them in their sourcing and importing activities. In the middle of 2008 our readership grew tremendously and from this base of people and companies came additional questions and request for help in forms of information and or access to information. What we found, while trying to help our readers, was that information was not symmetrical in all languages - basically what you could find in English or German or French or Italian or Spanish while searching on the web may be drastically different than what you could find in Chinese (especially when you are looking for information that is on or about China and or business related matters dealing with China). We were fortunate though since we had a team from various backgrounds (international trade, sourcing, technology, and people who lived in and spoke Chinese as their main language) that came together to tackle the problem. More on this below.

The challenges to getting trustworthy information

Some of our readers are from the largest companies in the world and others are from people starting their own business. However, almost all of them had one common and quite significant problem - how do they get reliable and trustworthy trade information and knowledge about China? It is a fact that the Internet has enormous amounts of data, information, and knowledge but the key has always been and continues to be - how do we find it and is it even in our own language? Another large problem many of our readers identified was the fact that most of the major Chinese government publications provided less than 10% of all the notices, news, and publications that they released in other languages like English, German, French, Dutch, and so forth. Beyond this there is the pain of finding this information using traditional search engines that show results from all types of sources. Much of the available information that comes up on traditional search engines are not from very legitimate sources and that issue facilitates the consumption of unreliable or inaccurate information by those searching for such information. Beyond this, we have found in the last several years that an extraordinary amount of people and companies doing business with China lack basic to critical information such as government updates just because of what is known as information asymmetry. We have found that this information asymmetry stems from the observation noted above that less than 10% of Chinese government updates are translated to other languages by the government institutions or leading Chinese publications themselves. While many critical government updates are translated into English, we have found a vast body of information is not. This is true for all types of governments and not just the Chinese. As a case in example - only a fraction of the publications and press releases as well as government citations and notices in the United States are translated in other languages. So what can we do to help our readers - that was the challenge and the opportunity.

SourceJuice.com - Version 2 as a platform

So having identified some (we know there are many more) of the problems and pains of getting trustworthy information we set about a mission to create an innovative platform that has never been pieced together before in this manner. A platform to enable information transparency. A platform on the Internet that provides the power of information by using innovative technologies that were combined and refined to create a central place for information in multiple languages for information that was either inaccessible (most didn't know how to even find it) or could not be understood (was in Chinese and a translated version was not available).

So what does this all mean?

Well, we decided to create a level of transparency that was unavailable before by translating the bulk of available Chinese government content that was related to business - from finance topics provided by Xinhua news that was not being translated into other languages to notices put forth by China Customs to commodity prices provided by the various regional ministries of commerce in China. We do the translations by using advanced translation software that learns and gets better over time. After translating hundreds of thousands of documents, we decided to put it under one powerful search engine that enabled the speedy and highly accurate access to find and discover this wealth of information and knowledge. Additionally, we decided that our readers would benefit from timely updates so we added web spiders to our technology mix to rapidly collect updates and news and translate them as quickly as possible to provide them to our readers. The combination, which we call the platform, is SourceJuice.com - a place that will be constantly updated, improved, made better, and that is becoming the trusted place to get information from trusted sources.

We understand that our translated content does not replace the value of human translation. We also understand that our translation creates, at times, something that is neither entirely legible nor easy to understand. However, we believe that having this capability allows our readers to, at the very least, get an idea or overview of the content that is being produced to identify if it is of importance to them in their business matters - basically a level of transparency that was never provided before. Additionally, we provide the original source for every translated article, announcement, and or press that is provided on our site for our readers so that they can take the original source as the reference and or citing to be used as they need (Note: On every article that is translated we provide a button called "show original source" that will open up the original website page where our automated systems pulled and then translated the material for our users). Having something is better than nothing is what we believe. Having information where previously there was none or having information in your language when previously it was only in Chinese is powerful and as information is - informative!

By being careful with our selection of source material which we call "Trusted Sources*" we take effort to ensure we are providing our readers legitimate information from reliable and trusted sources of information (*An example of a "Trusted Source" of information is China's Ministry of Commerce which is an official government organization in China that provides press and material regarding government and business related activities in China as well as abroad). We do this so you don't have to, so you don't have to spend weeks or months or possibly never find the more than 200 sources (and growing) we have identified and presented on this platform. We aim to provide reliable, timely, accessible, and powerful information for those doing business in and with China.

In summary, SourceJuice.com is a platform for knowledge, a platform for information to have symmetry in multiple languages, a platform to empower those doing business to research. A place where technology is used to facilitate the transfer of information and knowledge. A place where an idea become a reality and challenges were tackled with creative thinking and unrelenting execution. A place where we are learning, improving and thanking people like you for taking the time to visit and recommending this site to others as well as linking to us (this really helps us) so that more people in search can come to SourceJuice.com to find their next piece of information to facilitate or empower their business, their work, and or their projects.
