DeWalt designs, manufactures and markets particularly robust, durable and powerful machines and accessories for professionals in the construction sector and industry. The yellow and black brand offers a full line of power tools, storage, accessories, lasers and garden tools.
3 Partnerships and Sponsorship
In 1924 Raymond E. DeWalt created the company in his name, in the city of Leola (Pennsylvania), in the United States. The purpose of creating the company was to manufacture and sell his invention: the radial saw.
The company grew rapidly and was reorganized and reinstated in 1947 under the name DeWalt Inc. After the purchase of the company in 1949, the firm American Machine & Foundry Co., Inc. then experienced good growth and was bought in 1960 by the company. Black and Decker company.
Black & Decker divested the radial saw of the manufacturing branch in 1989 and sold it to two executives. Radial arm saws that use the original DeWalt design can still be obtained from the Original Saw Co.
In 1992, Black & Decker launched a major effort to rename its professional grade and premium power tools to DeWalt. In 1994, DeWalt took over the German manufacturer of electric work tools, ELU. DeWalt has expanded its line of tools using ELU technology. In 2001 DeWalt manufactures and sells over 200 different power tools and 800 accessories.
In 2004, Black and Decker acquired Porter-Cable, its direct competitor, and merged its activities with those of DeWalt in Jackson (Tennessee).
In 2011, DeWalt launched a very broad line of hand tools (including utility knives, pliers, adjustable wrenches, tape measures, saws and hammers). In 2013, the line was expanded to include mechanical tools (wrenches, ratchets and sockets).
As of 2015, DeWalt has seven manufacturing plants for DeWalt branded products in the United States: New Britain, CT, Hampstead, MD, Shelbyville, KY, Greenfield, IN, Cheraw, South Carolina, Charlotte and Jackson, TN.

Range of power tools
Accessories range This range includes drill bits and screwdriver bits, circular saw blades, abrasives or hole saws. All concrete and metal drills are manufactured in factories in Germany. The cutting, saber saw blade, hole saw and circular saw products are made in the United States.
Partnerships and Sponsorship
Outside of the tooling world, DeWalt is also well known in the racing world. In fact, the company sponsored NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth for 10 years. From 1999 to 2009, Matt Kenseth’s cars sported the colors of the famous American tool brand. During this partnership, the driver will notably win the Winston Cup in 2000.
DeWalt also sponsored MotoGP rider Ben Spies for the 2010 racing season.
DeWalt is a brand committed to supporting future craftsmen. For several years, the yellow and black brand has been a major partner of WorldSkills France, the Olympiades des Métiers. This international competition rewards, every two years, the professionalism and excellence of manual trades and crafts.
DEWALT accompanied Baptiste Menestrello, 2018 French Framing Champion and silver medalist at the 2019 Worldskills World Final.
